Albert Heintze

Karl Friedrich Albert Heintze (born March 30, 1831 in Naugard , † March 20, 1906 in Stolp ) was a German high school teacher.

Life

Albert Heintze was the son of Wilhelm Heintze, Rector in Naugard, and his wife Karoline, geb. Tobold. Around 1833 the family moved to Wachholzhagen in the church district of Treptow an der Rega and took over a pastor's position there. The children received their first lessons from their father. At the age of 15 Albert Heintze came to the Marienstiftsgymnasium in Stettin . After graduating from high school, he went to Halle to study theology, but soon turned to philology and went to the University of Erlangen . In 1849 he became a member of the Hallenser , later also of the Erlanger and Berlin Wingolf . In the fall of 1854 he completed his studies.

In 1855 Heintze came to the grammar school in Köslin as an assistant teacher . He then spent a year teaching at the Bugenhagen grammar school in Treptow ad Rega. In January 1858 he followed the call to the grammar school in Stolp.

After 40 years of service, Heintze retired. He could now concentrate fully on his scientific work. In addition to publications on German studies, some poetic works were also published. He wrote the libretto for the oratorio "The Conversion of Paul" by Gustav Boening.

Albert Heintze's most important work was “The German Family Names”, the first edition of which was published in 1882 and later continued by Paul Cascorbi and became a standard work on German family names as “Heintze-Cascorbi”.

In 1889 Heintze was awarded the title of professor, in 1895 he received the Red Eagle Order, fourth class.

Albert Heintze was buried in the Stolper St. Marien cemetery.
