Leibniz Institute for Material-Oriented Technologies

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Leibniz Institute for Material -Oriented Technologies - IWT in Bremen is a research institute of the Leibniz Association with the aim of promoting research in the field of metal processing . The IWT is the only research institute in Germany to work together in one institute for the specialist disciplines of materials engineering , manufacturing engineering and process engineering , which traditionally operate separately in Germany .

The IWT is located today in the form of a foundation under private law (since 1975) on the campus of the University of Bremen ( Technologiepark Bremen , since 1989) as an institute that cooperates with the university but is independent. One of the IWT's business areas is the Official Material Testing Institute of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen (MPA Bremen) (since 1986). A branch is located near Bremen Airport .

history

The IWT looks back on more than 60 years of history since July 13, 1950, when its predecessor, the Institute for Hardening Technology (IHT), was founded in Bremen-Lesum. A branch of the Institute for Materials Science at the Technical University of Berlin in Bremen-Lesum had previously been established in 1941.
