The Leibniz Private School is a state-recognized, privately owned substitute school from Elmshorn in Schleswig-Holstein .

history

On November 5, 2005, the founder of the school, Barbara Manke-Boesten, submitted an application to the Ministry of Education in Kiel to establish a private educational institution. The following year the school started its regular operations for the first time. Due to the increasing number of students, the new building of the school at Ramskamp was moved into on August 27, 2010.

The upper level has been officially recognized since December 2016. Previously, the students had to take the Abitur according to the examination regulations for external exams .

Media reports

The school hit the headlines when it became known that in 2014 a quarter of the students had failed the Abitur exam and in the following year, after in-school preliminary exams, a third of the 12th grade students were not registered for the exam. At state high schools, the failure rate is much lower, according to the Kieler Nachrichten . The rector accused the state government of discriminating against the private school by failing to obtain recognition. The Abitur examination for external students is much more difficult than the usual one and does not take into account preliminary grades.

The educational researcher Manfred Weiß from the German Institute for International Pedagogical Research did not accept this declaration, since students from other German private schools would on average reach the level of public high schools. Rather, the high fluctuation rate among teaching staff at the Leibniz private school would have a negative impact.
