Surname

The name is derived from the Leine river on which the city of Hanover is located. The Leinetal is not located in Hanover, but in southern Lower Saxony. There is a group of schools near the city of Einbeck , which are also called Leinetalschulen, but have no connection with the special profile of the Hanoverian Leinetalschulen. The Leine River does not flow through the city nearby, but a few kilometers away from the Hanoverian Leinetalschulen, and in contrast to the Leinebergland near Einbeck, there is no Leinetal in Hanover, as the whole city is flat except for a few hills.

As an alternative to the compound Leinetalschulen, the Hanoverian schools are also called Leinetal Gymnasium and Realschule in their own publications .
