Foundation and goals

The Leipzig Monument Foundation was founded on October 19, 2009 by 51 members in the Alte Handelsbörse . It has been working as an independent, non-profit foundation based in Leipzig since 2010. The foundation was set up jointly by citizens, companies and public institutions. It has set itself the goal of making a contribution through civic engagement, sustainable concepts and financial support to stop further losses of architectural monuments. The chairman of the foundation is the lawyer and art historian Wolfram Günther . The Monument Foundation wants to contribute to the preservation of endangered architectural monuments in Leipzig and Central Germany. Since then, the foundation has been located in the Palmengarten Palais , itself a restored monument.

Support association

The Friends of the Leipziger Denkmalstiftung eV was founded on May 12, 2010. The chairman of the board of directors is Toralf Zinner . The aim of the association is to strengthen the citizens 'and authorities' awareness of the importance of the historical building stock, as well as to secure architectural monuments and to preserve them for posterity. Usage concepts are developed, owners are advised, the importance of monument protection is explained and a regional network for monuments is overseen. Various working groups within the development association work on an interdisciplinary basis to implement these goals. The Leipzig Monument Foundation and its support association founded the "Dresden Group" on August 28, 2014 in the Waldschänke Hellerau . This is increasingly active in the East Saxony area, especially in Dresden .

Working groups

Various projects are organized in the working groups of the friends' association.

  • The Working Group Actions organizes voluntary work, imparting knowledge and craftsmanship for buildings that can neither be repaired by private nor by the state.
  • The Monument Radar Working Group has created an online platform that collects data from dilapidated buildings that are worthy of protection and makes them available to potential buyers, users and architects. Buildings are to be given a new use. Interested investors can also use the monument radar to obtain information on usage concepts and financing models.
  • The emergency rescue fund working group is to provide urgent help for buildings at risk in the short term.
  • In addition to the communication of the foundation and the support association, the public relations working group also oversees events for building maintenance on occasions such as the Open Monument Day or at topic-related trade fairs. This also includes the organization, the establishment of contact via social media and the subsequent preparation of joint events.
  • The working group for children and young people has been involved in the summer and winter holiday pass for 3 years. Events suitable for children are accompanied by specially designed handicraft sheets from historical buildings. The foundation also works with young people as part of the "PEGASUS - Schools adopt monuments" project.
