Leisure (dt. Leisure ) is an Australian animated short film by Bruce Petty of 1976.
action
As early as the Stone Age , in addition to trying to survive, people had occasional breaks in which, for example, they played simple ball games or watched a volcano erupt. This changed in the course of industrial development. Life was divided into domestic and professional, society divided into workers and rich who let work. The term “leisure” was first coined here. It was later decided that everyone was entitled to free time, and so the workers also enjoyed the free hours that were spent, for example, in taverns or cheap theaters.
The electrification and mechanization of the world began. The film began its triumphal march and society lived "faster". Leisure time was divided into sport (amateur / professional), culture (art / fashion) and park . When this did not lead to relaxation either, it was assumed that the human brain simply had no more leisure time. The brain was now being pushed with medication and drugs , the self-actualization began and also the suspicion that the leisure time was simply not planned well enough. Playgrounds, golf courses, markets, fishing areas, roof gardens and much more were created. According to further findings of the sociologists, an attempt was made to bring leisure time into the work area in order to ultimately realize that everyone has different needs for their leisure time. A rethink began: It is not work that determines leisure time, but rather the distribution of leisure time structures work. The film ends with the words “The new challenge for humans is leisure” (German: “The new challenge for humanity is leisure”).
