Leisure 22 is a series of pleasure boats from the British company Cobramold Ltd (which was later renamed Brinecraft Ltd). The yacht is mainly built for cruising in coastal sea waters. The keel keel version ( KK ) is suitable for trips in tidal waters due to its shallow draft and the ability to dry out .

history

The first version came out under the name Leisure 22 in 1971. The Leisure 22 is almost identical to the later Leisure 23 . The Leisure 22 has a technical sailing problem: If the longitudinal trim is incorrect, it will stick to the stern.

The effect of a sinking stern with incorrect trim can be seen in practice on many smaller boats. A practical test with a Leisure 22 on this effect showed: If the longitudinal trim is intentionally incorrect, a lowering of the stern by about 15 cm when the trunk speed is reached can be observed. Assessment: Due to the high freeboard of the Leisure 22 of 80 cm, the effect was not a practical limitation. A balanced longitudinal trim should always be taken into account in the interests of good driving characteristics. A well-trimmed boat travels faster due to the optimal waterline length and also puts its bow into the wave as the construction provides. In practice, it is usually sufficient to place provisions and luggage close to the bow (conditions of the practical test: Leisure 22 KK version, five adults in the cockpit , empty bow storage space / incorrect trim, 10 HP AB engine, full throttle at hull speed ).

Keel versions

The Leisure 22 was produced in versions with a keel keel and 0.81 m draft or a central keel version with a 1.19 m draft.

Sails

Mainsail: 9.8 m²
Genoa: 10.2 m²
Jib: 7.9 m²
Spinnaker: 32.5 m²

Motorization

Most boats are equipped with an outboard motor, but there are also variants with built-in diesel, these usually with saildrive . 10 HP engine power is sufficient to reach the trunk speed .

deck

The cockpit offers space for five people. There is a spacious locker between the cockpit and the stern . There is a hatch on the foredeck that leads into the foredeck cabin below.

cabin

A double berth is housed in the foredeck. There is space for a toilet under the bed of the starboard berth. By opening the lying surface it becomes free. The galley is on the port side in the central nave ; this has a sink. Space for placing a stove is provided. On the starboard side there is a table with two benches, on each of which an adult and a child can be seated. The table, lowered to bench height, forms a narrow double bed measuring 2.00 m × 0.95 m. A dog bunk forms the fifth bed on the port side. Except for about 50 cm, the lying area is under the cockpit. There is another box under the starboard bench of the cockpit.

Test by yacht magazine

A test of Leisure 22 was published in 1975 in issue 7, p. 108 ff., In the magazine Yacht . The narrow side decks, the maneuverability and sharp-edged cabin hatch rails are criticized and the following points are emphasized: the living comfort through the wide cabin structure, the protected cockpit, the course stability as well as the good initial stability and the soft onset in rough seas.
