history
Leith Academy is considered one of the oldest schools in Scotland . The institute has its roots in 1521. From its inception until 1806, the school was under the control of South Leith Parish Church . It is not known where the class took place before 1636. From this year on, the students were taught at Trinity House in Leith. Lessons took place there until 1710. After disagreements about the amount of rent, the institute moved to the King James Hospital. In 1792 it was finally decided to build a school building of its own. The building not far from Leith Links park was completed in 1806. In 1888 the school took its current name. As the student population continued to rise, they moved into a new building on Duke Street in 1931. Today, the building on Leith Links houses primary school classes and the building on Duke Street is used by Queen Margaret University .
building
The current main building of the Leith Academy was moved into in May 1991. The central axis of the building is the so-called Main Street . This passage with a glass roof runs through the entire building. All departments and facilities of the school are arranged along this corridor. The passage is lined with various plants that were already featured in the BBC- produced television program The Beechgrove Garden .
