The excavation or Künette or Kinette (. From the French cunettes , ital. Cunetta = ditch) is an elongated Aufgrabungsschacht (also line shaft or cable trench ) in road construction for wiring. The term Künen is mainly used in Austria .

properties

It is usually dug to lay pipes (gas, water, electricity, telecommunications, etc.). At greater depths (in Austria legally from 1.25 m depth) or with a brittle embankment, the walls of an excavation are stabilized with wood or shoring boxes , and when it is close to the groundwater , it is pumped . According to the law, excavations that are 40 cm wide or less may not be entered. When crossing house entrances, the excavation must be covered in a reliable manner.

After the lines have been laid, the acceptance and then the filling of the excavation and compaction of the material in layers takes place. The restoration of the surface with bituminous coverings , paving stones , humus etc., depending on the previous structure, concludes the excavation. After waiting for a calming period (e.g. 6 months), the final inspection takes place to determine any consequential damage and subsidence.

Residual strips

As a remaining strip in excavations Germany acc. ZTVA-StB 97 denotes the withdrawal of bound cover layers beyond the stepped cut back . This is differentiated depending on the type of top layer:

  • Remaining strip widths of the bituminous paved superstructure <0.35 m wide must be removed next to the cut back bituminous layers up to the edge or the next joint.
  • Remaining strip widths of the superstructure with a concrete ceiling <0.50 m wide must be removed along with the cut back, bound layers up to the edge or the next joint.
  • Remaining strip widths of the paved carriageway or the parking strip <0.40 m wide or 1/2 arch width of the paving must be removed next to the cut back, paved layer up to the pavement edge .
