In linguistics , especially in sociolinguistics , reading is an umbrella term for the various language varieties . The expression is mostly used as a basic word ( determinatum ) -lekt of compound words , so in " dialect " and " sociolect ". These are "large linguistic areas" which, among other things, fulfill different functions ( functiolects ), have different regional characteristics ( regiolects ), show different forms depending on social class (sociolects) or chronological sequence ( chronolects ) and are characterized by certain linguistic forms Distinguish features from the other large areas.
