Louie Bickerton

Louie Mildred Bickerton (* 1902 in Clifton Hill , Victoria , Australia , † June 6, 1998 ) was an Australian tennis player .

Career

Bickerton won three titles in women's doubles and one in mixed doubles at the Australian tennis championships (now the Australian Open ). She celebrated the first success together with Meryl O'Hara Wood in 1927. Two years later, in 1929, she was successful with Daphne Akhurst . The victory in this competition she could repeat in 1931 with Akhurst. Four years later (1935) she won the mixed doubles title with the French Christian Boussus .

Bickerton was also privately friends with Daphne Akhurst Cozens until her death in 1933 and married Daphne's widower in 1935. She was with him for 63 years until her death.
