Lello Arena (actually Raffaele Arena , born November 1, 1953 in San Giorgio a Cremano ) is an Italian actor .

Life

At the beginning of his career, Arena belonged to the La Smorfia theater group (which had been founded as I Saraceni in 1969 ), which also included Massimo Troisi and Enzo Decaro . At the end of the 1970s, the trio succeeded in creating a sensation with their novel mixture of classical elements with modern alienation technology and achieved success with both audiences and critics in several television programs such as Non stop and Luna Park . In the figure constellation, Arena was the eternal loser and underdog. He soon made a few films, initially again with Troisi - the theater group was disbanded - in which his acting achievements were also praised. In 1988 he directed Chiari di luna from his own script, a moderately successful romantic comedy. In addition to television engagements as an actor at Tele5 and as a frequent guest on Maurizio Costanzo's programs, he also did the sitcom Quei due sopra il varano with Enzo Iacchetti .

Arena's other works were recordings with Raffaella Carrà , the two-year directorship of the satirical show Striscia la notizia (1995/1996) and participation in the mini-series Luisa Sanfelice in 2004. He also writes, plays and directs for the stage again and again.

In 1983 Arena was awarded a David di Donatello for his role in Massimo Troisi's Scusate il ritardo . He is married to the daughter of the director Vittorio Taviani .
