Ernst Lennart Carlsson-Askerlund (born July 9, 1918 in Eskilstuna , † July 2, 1957 in Norrköping ) was a Swedish national football player .

Career

Lennart Carlsson started playing football in his home country. His first station was IFK Eskilstuna , where he was able to establish himself in the club's first team in the 1935/36 season . However, this season was unsuccessful for the central Swedish club and at the end of the season the club had to relegate to Division 2 . Still, Carlsson remained loyal to the club.

As a second division player, he was appointed to the Swedish national team. On November 21, 1937 he played for his first, but also only international match, when the Swedish selection in qualifying for the 1938 World Cup met the selection of the Third Reich . Both teams were already qualified for the final round, so the final group game was of no great importance and the 5-0 success of the German team in the Altona stadium with goals from Fritz Szepan (8th minute), Otto Siffling (2nd, 57th minute) . ) and Helmut Schön (48th, 63rd) only served to determine the group winner.

In 1940 Carlsson returned to the premier division when he joined Malmö FF . In two seasons he made 35 first division appearances and scored six goals. In 1942 he then moved to league rivals AIK Solna . Here, too, he stayed for two years and celebrated 14 first division goals in 43 games. In 1945 he returned to his hometown club in Eskilstuna, which had returned to the first division in 1942, but was now playing second class again. He played here until his untimely death in 1957.
