Lennart Carlsson (Romanist)

Lennart Carlsson (born March 16, 1934 in Eskilstuna ; † May 1991 ) was a Swedish Romance scholar and linguist.

life and work

Carlsson graduated from high school in Eskilstuna and studied in Uppsala , first Latin, then Romance studies. He graduated in 1956, was a high school teacher and was assistant to Bengt Hasselrot at Uppsala University . There he received his doctorate in 1966 with the thesis Le degré de cohésion des groupes subst. + De + subst. en français contemporain, étudié d'après la place accordée à l'adjectif épithète. Avec examen comparatif des groupes correspondants de l'italien et de l'éspagnol (Uppsala 1966). Carlsson was (as successor to his teacher) from 1973 to 1991 professor in Uppsala (successor: Kerstin Jonasson). He was the first professor of Romance languages ​​in Uppsala to fully accept so-called modern linguistics. In this regard he had been influenced by his first teacher Göran Hammarström as early as 1953 .
