Leo Bertos

Leo Bertos (actually Leonidas Bertos ; born December 20, 1981 in Wellington ) is a New Zealand soccer player with Greek roots who is currently under contract with the New Zealand top club Wellington Phoenix . He is also a New Zealand international.

Career

After Bertos had spent a few years in the lower leagues of England at clubs such as Barnsley, Chester, Rochdale and York City, he moved to Australia, to Perth Glory . In the A-League Bertos was regularly in the first team, first for two years at Perth and then at Wellington Phoenix . Although his name is rarely found among goal scorers, he has prepared numerous goals in the national team and also in the club. The 2009/10 season was by far the most successful for Bertos' club Wellington Phoenix, which repeatedly played in front of a record crowd and was the first New Zealand club to reach the A-League final. Bertos was instrumental in this success, as he was used in every game and also set a new club record in terms of the number of assists.

Bertos has played in the New Zealand national team since 2003 and took part in the Confederations Cup in 2009 and in the 2010 World Cup.
