Leo Hauck

Leo Hauck (born May 29, 1874 in Vach ; † November 1, 1945 in Erlangen ) was a German doctor and professor of skin and venereal diseases .

Life and work

Hauck, whose father was a brick factory owner, first attended the Melanchthon grammar school in Nuremberg , but was dismissed for participating in the forbidden Abitur, and therefore switched to the Erlangen grammar school, where he graduated from high school in 1893. He was a one year old volunteer . In the winter semester of 1893/94, Hauck joined the AMV Fridericiana Erlangen . In 1906 he became a private lecturer in Erlangen, and in 1910 an associate professor for skin and venereal diseases. During the First World War, Hauck was senior staff doctor, chief doctor of a field hospital and regimental doctor of the 11th Bavarian Infantry Regiment. In 1924 he became a full professor and finally director of the Erlangen Dermatology Clinic. During the Second World War, Hauck was the chief physician of a reserve hospital in Erlangen.

In the First World War, Hauck received the Iron Cross 1st Class and the Bavarian Military Merit Order IV Class with Swords . The city of Erlangen named Leo-Hauck-Strasse on the south side of the Burgberg after him.
