Leo Lejeune

Leo Lejeune (born July 30, 1915 in Zurich , † January 5, 1985 in Muttenz ) was a Swiss lawyer and politician ( SP ).

Life

Lejeune graduated from high school in Zurich and studied law . In 1943 he was admitted to the bar and in 1944 he moved to Muttenz. From 1944 to 1959 he worked in the legal department of the Association of Swiss Consumers in Basel.

The SP member was Basel Canton President from 1948 to 1959 and Muttenz City Council from 1948 to 1954 . From 1950 to 1959 he was a member of the Basel Landrat , from 1955 to 1959 in the National Council and from 1959 to 1975 in the Government Council . He was responsible for the education and military administration.

Since secondary schools were present only in Basel, Lejeune sat as a government for the creation of high schools (Liestal, Münchenstein, Muttenz and Oberwil), career choice classes , Progymnasien , special schools and a teacher training college one. From 1960 to 1969 he sat on the constitutional council of both Basels and advocated their reunification. He was also a member of the Evangelical Reformed Council of Churches from 1953 to 1960.
