Leo Marić (born April 2, 1974 in Mostar ) is a Yugoslav football player . The native Bosnian, son of the national goalkeeper Enver Marić , played in the 1990s in the German national and regional league as a center forward. 2001 Marić became a football youth coach in the USA .

career

Leo Marić is a classic street footballer; the native Mostar offered ideal conditions for this. His father Enver introduced him to club football in 1984. Leo played as a goalkeeper for half a year, then only as a center forward. He scored 82 goals in 161 youth games, making him the most successful striker of his year in Yugoslavia. From 1989 to 1991 he played in the U-16 and U-18 national teams of Yugoslavia.

In 1990 Leo Marić received his first professional contract with FK Velež Mostar through a special permit from the football association , making him the youngest professional footballer in his country at the age of 16. The Yugoslav war brought his Yugoslav football career to a standstill. He fled to Germany through a family friend.

From 1991 to 1992 he was part of the Rot-Weiss Essen squad . Further stations were Fortuna Düsseldorf , KRC Genk ( Belgium ), Eintracht Braunschweig , Union & Dynamo Berlin . A series of injuries forced Marić to give up his career as a forward at the age of 26. He moved to the USA through family contacts and became a trainer at Dallas Texans SC. He has been an American citizen since 2007.

Leo Marić is married and has a daughter and a son.
