Kings Park

The Kings Park is an urban park in the Western Australian capital Perth . It is a mixture of well-tended parkland, botanical garden and two thirds of natural bushes dedicated to conservation .

The area was reserved for public use in 1831. In 1872 175 hectares were formally gazetted as a public park for the first time. Until 1897 the park was expanded several times up to 412 hectares. In 1895 he was officially Perth Park named, in 1901 then in honor of King Edward VII. In The King's Park renamed. Today the park is 400.6 hectares and the apostrophe has disappeared from the name.

With its size of 400.6 hectares, it is one of the largest city parks in the world and is even larger than the 349.15 hectare Central Park in New York.

In memory of Edith Cowan , the first woman to be elected to an Australian Parliament in 1921, a stone clock tower called the Edith Dircksey Cowan Memorial has been erected at the entrance to the park .

Botanical Garden

In 1965 the 17 hectare Western Australian Botanical Garden was opened in Kings Park .

playgrounds

The playground in May Drive Parkland (formerly Synergy Parkland ) is suitable for children over six years of age. For children under six, the Ivey Watson Playground in the Lotterywest Family Area is ideal. Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park is designed for children with the aim of developing a relationship with nature and learning to appreciate the unique Western Australian environment.
