Leo VI (Pope)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Leo VI (* in Rome ; † 928 or 929) was Pope in 928 for seven months and a few days . The exact dates of his election and death are unknown. Since his term of office fell in the second half of the year, he may have died in late 928 or early 929.

Leo came from a noble Roman family, became a cardinal priest in 928 and was appointed pope immediately after the deposition of Pope John X by the Senatrix Marozia , who at that time dominated Roman politics. That age is also known as pornocracy . Before his appointment as Pope, he was Cardinal Presbyter of Santa Susanna in Rome.

Only measures relating to the metropolitan rights of Split in Dalmatia and Croatia have come down to us from his pontificate .
