Leonard Sachs

Leonard Sachs (born September 26, 1909 in Roodepoort , Transvaal , † June 15, 1990 in London ) was a South African- British actor .

Life

Leonard Sachs was born in South Africa in the city of Roodeport, Transvaal. During his career he could look back on many television and film roles between the 1930s and 1980s. He played the Mowbray in the 1950 film adaptation of Richard II , the title role in John Wesley (1954) and Lord Mount Severn in East Lynn (1976). Sachs turned an old music hall into the newly established Players' Theater on Villiers Street, London. Sachs appeared as chairman of the Leeds City Varieties on the long-running television series The Good Old Days from 1953 to 1983 and was known for his sophisticated performances of the cast. Leonard Sachs Lifetime Achievement was honored with an episode of This is Your Life in 1977 .

Leonard Sachs also appeared alongside Patrick McGoohan on secret assignment for John Drake and in two episodes of the science fiction series Doctor Who : once as Admiral Gaspard II. De Coligny in The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve (1966), the other time in 1983 as Lord President Borusa in Arc of Infinity .

In 1947, Sachs married actress Eleanor Summerfield. From this marriage the sons Robin and Toby Sachs emerged. Leonard Sachs died in London at the age of 80.
