Leonard Siemiątkowski

Leonard Siemiątkowski (born November 6, 1917 - April 12, 2014 ) was a Polish economist and politician .

Since his youth, Siemiątkowski belonged to the Polish United Workers' Party , the ruling Marxist-Leninist party within the People's Republic of Poland from 1948 onwards .

From September 17, 1968 to December 29, 1972, Siemiątkowski was President of the Polish National Bank and as such also State Secretary of the Polish Ministry of Finance under Minister Stefan Jędrychowski .

During the political and economic crisis in the People's Republic of Poland from 1967, which culminated in the 1970 uprising after nationwide strikes and led to the end of Władysław Gomułka's rule , Siemiątkowski gained a leading role due to numerous personnel changes in the country's economically relevant departments and institutions.
