Dietrich Ernst op dem Hamme called von Schoeppingk ( Russian : Дитрих Эрнст фон Шёппинг, * July 6, 1749 in Bornsmünde ; † June 1, 1818 in Mitau ) was a German-Baltic nobleman, landlord , Kurland politician and Russian statesman .

Life

Dietrich Ernst op dem Hamme called von Schoeppingk studied from 1776 to 1770 at Leipzig University . He then went on an educational trip to Germany , France and Switzerland for two years . He then returned to the Duchy of Courland and Zemgale and began his political career.

He belonged to the moderate aristocratic wing and was a political opponent of Otto Hermann von der Howen (1740-1806). Dietrich Ernst came from the original noble family op dem Hamme gen. Von Schoeppingk , his ancestors came to the Baltic States around 1550 and lived on the Bornsmühle estate for over 400 years.
