Life

Leonhard R. Lang, 2009

Leonhard Rudolf Lang was born in 1944 in Lauf , district of Bühl , in Baden , and went to school and high school in Aldingen and Spaichingen . Despite his musical talent, his education and working life took a technical direction. He trained as a mechanic, later made an industrial foreman and a degree as a REFA technician and worked, among other things, as an operations manager in German industrial companies. He became known to the public as a painter from 1998. Leonhard R. Lang died in 2017 after a serious illness.

His first picture, a watercolor, was created in 1973. In addition to his professional activity, he created other paintings in oil on canvas . The desire for artistic activity grew steadily, on the one hand due to the enthusiasm for the topic and on the other hand as a balance to the technology, which was in the foreground professionally. The first pictures showed pseudo-representational things, whereby the quite intense colors dominated more than the shapes. Trips to the USA inspired him to take new pictures, especially stimulated by the colors and light of the landscapes of the southwest .

From 1993 Leonhard R. Lang painted more often until he started working exclusively as an artist in 1996. The representational stepped back more and more in his work and he turned to abstract painting . "Saturated colors shine from the canvases, they unfold a mysterious glow - even in restrained tones." This is supported in some series of pictures by a spatula technique that opens layers of paint on top of one another.

His artistic estate comprises around 250 oil paintings in three main series and techniques. His picture series Lines deserves special mention , which attracted attention with its special optics and the independent technology he developed.

“Form and color enter into a particularly intimate connection here, which captivates the viewer. The aesthetic experience, the mesmerizing when looking at the colored lines and surfaces, dissolves the supposed structures and can certainly trigger psychological effects. […]
Of course, the millennium was also an inspiration for the artist and the occasion for a special Millennium Lines series. The specialty of the pictures in this series: each picture consists of exactly 2000 vertical lines. […]
The charisma and emergence of Leonhard Lang's pictures also result from the apparently contradictory but surprisingly harmonious connection between technology and emotion, both in the picture itself and in the artist's intention and message. [...] "
