The Leonhardskirche in Arndorf in the parish of Maria Saal is consecrated to St. Leonhard . It is a branch of the Roman Catholic parish Maria Saal .

Building description

Wooden ceiling with late Gothic painting

The house of God is a late Gothic building built around 1500 with buttresses on the nave. The tower on the north side with arched sound openings is crowned by a baroque onion helmet. A bell was cast by Franz Anton Mayr in 1745. The west portal has a corrugated lintel and a pointed arched, profiled walls.

A flat, stenciled wooden ceiling spans the nave with remains of late Gothic tendril painting from the beginning of the 16th century. On the south wall of the nave there are three high lancet windows and three late Gothic tracery windows in the choir . A pointed arched, grooved triumphal arch connects the nave and the retracted, single -bay choir with five-eighth end . In the choir, a ribbed vault rests on consoles. The coat of arms of the Keutschacher can be seen on the eastern keystone . The late Gothic frescoes with tendrils and angel heads were uncovered in 1982/83. A profiled pointed arch portal leads into the sacristy on the tower ground floor.

The baroque high altar is labeled "anno 1643 andre planer Maller" . The attachment and the wings are framed with cartilage . The altar sheet with the depiction of Saint Leonard is marked with "Paintings by Joh. Nepomuk Kleinperger, Mahler landscape in Klagenfurt 1708" . An unknown bishop and St. Wolfgang are depicted in the side arches . The base shows the crucifixion, the top picture shows the risen Christ. The left side altar from the second half of the 17th century consists of an aedicula and cartilage as an attachment. The middle picture with a depiction of the Sacred Heart comes from the 19th century. The top picture from the first half of the 19th century shows Christ and sheep drinking his blood. The right side altar from the third quarter of the 17th century bears a late Gothic figure of St. Florian created around 1440/1450 and on the side two late Gothic figures of bishops from the end of the 15th century. The church also features a baroque carved crucifix . The so-called Arndorfer Altar from the church has been installed in the Marienkirche in Maria Saal since the end of the 19th century.
