The leopard triggerfish ( Balistoides conspicillum ) is a species of the triggerfish family (Balistidae).
It is native to the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Its size is around 50 centimeters. The mouth framed with light orange and the large light spots on the lower half of the body create a striking contrast to the darker upper half of the body. The caudal and dorsal fin are drawn in green. Like all representatives of the triggerfish, it can fix the first dorsal spine in an upright position using the second spine.
The leopard triggerfish lives mostly solitary.
Leopard triggerfish for food
Leopard triggerfish can trigger ciguatera when consumed by humans. The symptoms include a reversal of the feeling of temperature, in which warm or hot objects are perceived as cold, while cold objects are perceived as hot.
