Leopold Knebel

Carl Leopold Knebel (* 1810 in Köpenick ; † July 29, 1854 in Berlin ) was a German painter .

Life

Around 1826–1836 Knebel studied at the Royal Prussian Academy of the Arts Berlin a . a. with Wilhelm Ternite . In 1829 and 1836 he took part in the competition for the “Great State Prize”, as well as in the Berlin Academy Exhibition from 1826–1842, mainly with genre paintings . Between 1836 and 1838 he was a student in Paul Delaroche's studio in Paris . There he also took part in the Paris Salon . Knebel traveled to Rome around 1838/39, then continued on to Florence and Bologna. In 1839 he took part in the exhibition of the Danziger Kunstverein, from 1840 he was based in Berlin as a history painter.
