Leopold Kotzmann (born November 15, 1884 in Woikowitz , † May 1, 1945 in Treffling near Linz ) was an Austrian politician.

Life

Kotzmann was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament from 1934 to 1938. He was also the community secretary in Sandl and chairman of the union of the Upper Austrian community employees.

In 1944 the Freetown resistance group "New Free Austria" was formed against the National Socialist rule, which he joined. The resistance group was composed of many political camps. In autumn 1944 the group was betrayed and its members were arrested by the Gestapo . They were tried before the People's Court for “ high treason ”. Eight members of the group, including Kotzmann, were sentenced to death and shot on May 1, 1945 at the military training area in Treffling near Linz . The execution was carried out before the petition for clemency was settled, probably under pressure from the Upper Austrian Gauleiter August Eigruber .

Kotzmann received a memorial in the St. Florian cemetery. He was married and had three children.
