Leopold Veit

Leopold Veit (born June 12, 1865 in Emmendingen ; † February 25, 1928 in Offenburg ) was a German lawyer and writer of the Jewish faith.

Life

Veit studied law in Freiburg im Breisgau and received his doctorate there. In 1895 he settled in Offenburg as a lawyer. He was also active as a writer, initially writing fairy tales and poems and later contributing to the pacifist French newspaper "L'armée nouvelle". In addition, there were dramas that were performed in Coburg, Karlsruhe and Offenburg.

Veit was married to Anna, b. Merchant (1874–1960). The couple had six children, all of whom were able to escape persecution under National Socialism. The daughter fled to England, the five sons all emigrated to Brazil.

Leopold Veit died in 1928 and was buried in the Offenburger Waldbachfriedhof, where his grave has been preserved to this day in the area of ​​the Jewish grave sites.
