The Leopoldine-Glöckel-Hof is an urban residential complex of the municipality of Vienna in the 12th district of Meidling , which was built from 1931 to 1932 according to plans by Josef Frank .

Building description

The residential complex is located at Gaudenzdorfer Gürtel 11 and is enclosed by Steinbauergasse, Herthergasse and Siebertgasse. It comprises 318 apartments on 18 stairs. The important Austrian architect Josef Frank planned the building in a deliberate contrast to the Reumannhof opposite in simple, clear forms. Edge construction without decoration or ornament surrounds a large inner courtyard. The smooth facades are only structured by individual balconies. However, the individual stairs are accentuated by alternating colors in delicate pastel tones and alternating dark and light window frames. This unusual coloring gave the originally nameless residential complex the name Regenbogenhof (also popularlyAquarellehof or Farbenkastl-Hof ).

history

The residential building was built on the so-called "Ringstrasse des Proletariat" in the immediate vicinity of other large municipal buildings from the time of Red Vienna . During the civil war the courtyard was occupied by Schutzbund troops. On February 13, 1934 he was forcibly stormed by government troops of the Federal Army with two companies and under fire protection with heavy machine guns and a mortar. On September 11, 1949, the facility was renamed Leopoldine-Glöckel-Hof, after the social democratic politician Leopoldine Glöckel (1871-1937) who lived and worked in this area . At the entrance from Steinbauergasse there is a memorial plaque for the name giver. During the renovation carried out in 2007, the original color scheme of the building was restored.
