Betty Glamann
Betty Glamann Voorhees (* 21st May 1923 in Wellington , Kansas ; † 3. September 1990 ) was an American jazz - harpist . She played with Kenny Dorham , Duke Ellington and Oscar Pettiford .
Live and act
Betty Glamann has played the harp since she was ten, attended a conservatory, graduated from Goucher College in 1944 and spent three years with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra . She played with Spike Jones in 1948 , founded the Smith-Glamann-Quintet in 1954 , played intermittently with Duke Ellington and Marian McPartland in 1955 , and then 1957-58 with Oscar Pettiford. With the band of Kenny Dorham she recorded the album Jazz Contrasts . In 1958 she was involved in recordings by Michel Legrand with Miles Davis and John Coltrane , but also on a record by Eddie Costa and in 1960 played with the Modern Jazz Quartet . In addition, an album Swinging on a Harp was created under his own name.
