Leptokarya ( Greek Λεπτοκαρυά ( f. Sg. ), Bulgarian Литово̀й ) is a small town on the edge of the Giannitsa plain in the municipality of Pella in the Greek region of Central Macedonia .

The village is on the road towards Goumenissa between Damiano in the south and Fyliria in the north. Another connection goes to Agrosykia in the southeast. In 2011 there were 187 inhabitants. The village has a primary school and a soccer field . At the cemetery east of the village is the chapel of Agios Nikolaos .

history

The place was listed under the name Litovoj (Lutava) on the map sheet 40-41 of the Franzisco-Josephinische Landesaufnahme .

According to the Bulgarian ethnographer Dimitar Mishev, Litovoï had 256 Bulgarian inhabitants at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1912, residents were described as speaking Macedonian with a Christian or Muslim religion. After the Greco-Turkish War , a population exchange between Greece and Turkey was agreed in the Treaty of Lausanne . The Muslim population had to emigrate to Turkey, in return 471 Christian refugees were resettled in the village. In 1954 the village of Litovoio was renamed Leptokarya .
