Lerato Chabangu (born August 15, 1985 in Tembisa ) is a South African football player who has played for the Moroka Swallows since 2011 .

Career

The 1.78-meter-tall striker began his career in Supersport United's youth , before joining Tuks FC , the University of Pretoria's soccer team, in 2003 . In his first season, he played twelve league games and scored three goals. He played 20 league games in his second and final year for Pretoria and scored a total of nine times.

After these two years at the University of Pretoria, he moved to the first division club Mamelodi Sundowns , with which he was under contract for five years. In the 2004/05 season he played seven league games and scored two goals. He completed 13 goalless league games in the next 2005/06 season. In the following 2006/07 season, he was used in 28 league games and promoted the ball six times into the gate. He played 23 league games in the 2007/08 season and scored six goals during the season. In his senior year for the Mamelodi Sundowns, he made ten goalless league games.

In the winter break of the 2008/09 season he moved to league rivals and his old youth club Supersport United , where he was under contract until the end of the season (9 games / no goal). The 2009/10 season he spent again at his old club Mamelodi Sundowns , where he was only used twice by the end of the season. For the second half of the 2010/11 season Chabangu moved to the Moroka Swallows , in which he played six goalless league games by the end of the season. In the 2011/12 season, 21 league appearances followed, but without scoring. He scored five goals each in the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons. In the first season he completed 27 league games and in the second Chabangu was used 28 times. Since the 2012/13 season at the latest, Chabangu has been an integral part of the starting line-up thanks to his performances.

Since 2005 he has been a member of the South African national soccer team and so far has played 31 full international matches for his home country, in which he scored two goals.
