Tembisa township

Tembisa is a city in the South African province of Gauteng . It belongs to the metropolitan municipality of Ekurhuleni . It was founded in 1957 as a township for the Johannesburg economic area .
geography
Tembisa is north of the city of Kempton Park and northeast of the city of Johannesburg. In 2011 Tembisa had 463,109 inhabitants. According to the 2011 census, around 99% of the residents are black. North Sotho dominates as mother tongue with around 33%, isiZulu with 27% and Xitsonga with 13%.
history
Tembisa was founded during the apartheid period in 1957 to serve as a home for black South Africans from overpopulated neighborhoods and cities such as Alexandra , Kempton Park, Edenvale , Midrand and Germiston .
Until 2006, the football club Tembisa Classic , which played in the first division of South Africa, was based in Tembisa. He was bought in 2005 by Maritzburg United FC from Pietermaritzburg , whose team was then playing in the First Division (Second League).
