Learn (desert)
The deserted Lerne or Empty is located in the district of the city of Duderstadt in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony .
location
The place and its area were about two kilometers east of Duderstadt in Sulbigtal in the area of the Rimpersgraben below the city mountain. The Sulbig is a small tributary to the Hahle , also known as Leerensche Rinne in connection with the Duderstädter Wall. Immediately to the east was Herbigshagen, which had also fallen desolate and is now the Herbigshagen estate . The name of the area has been preserved to this day and is called Im Leeren , the Lerborn or Leerenquelle is also known .
History of the desert
A first documentary mention of the period around 1200 is not certain and can probably be dated to around 1290. In 1257 a Gottschalk von Lerne was named and in 1288 the brothers Johannes and Gottschalk were named again as members of a small local nobility from Lerne. Johann Vinzenz Wolf gives 20 hooves as the size for the village .
When the place desolate has fallen, is not precisely known, probably in the 15th century. Throughout the 16th century, members of the von Hanstein family had tithe rights to learn. Up into the 18th century, the learning inheritances were still known in Duderstadt , consisting of several families who had shares in the lands in the former district. Archaeologically proven fragments were found in the area of the settlement.
Noble family of Lerne
A small local noble family named themselves after the place. The brothers Johann and Gottschalk von Lerne (1288) are mentioned in documents, a Hugo von Lerne is in the Reinhausen monastery in 1355 and another Curt is mentioned as a witness in 1388.
Origin of name
The place name Lerne has a relatively stable spelling and only a few deviations. The origin of the name is possibly a derivation of "-ina" for Larina or Lerina. The basic form “lar” can be derived from this, which means something like forest or herd. The location of the desert east of Duderstadt is actually in a wooded area.
