Learning status survey
In the course of quality assurance in schools, learning progress surveys are regularly carried out centrally in different subjects. The procedure differs depending on the federal state. Often what is meant is the determination of the level of knowledge or competence of individual students, classes or years. These emerged in the wake of the discussion about Germany's poor performance in the PISA study and are in the context of the so-called “empirical turnaround”, in which the results actually achieved (quality of impact) are decisive for school and teaching development as well as for the control of the education system Have gained importance.
Across Germany, surveys of learning levels are carried out in third and eighth grades under the name VERA . Individual federal states carry out learning status surveys in further grade levels.
The learning progress surveys are usually carried out on paper. Occasionally (e.g. in Baden-Württemberg) there are also online procedures, so that the teachers do not need to correct or evaluate them.
In Berlin , Brandenburg , Bremen , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , North Rhine-Westphalia , Rhineland-Palatinate and Schleswig-Holstein , a study of learning levels was carried out in 2006 in the fourth grade of primary school (later: 3rd grade) under the name VERA (comparative work in German and mathematics) carried out. The project was developed in Rhineland-Palatinate at the University of Koblenz-Landau and adopted by the other participating federal states. The CDU-ruled countries did not originally take part (exception NRW / CDU-ruled since 2005). Since the 2006/2007 school year, learning status surveys have also taken place nationwide in the eighth grades. The time of implementation is always the beginning of the second half of February / March in class 8.
