Les Maîtres de l'Amour

Les Maîtres de l'Amour (The Masters of Love) is a French-language book series with works of erotic literature from different countries and peoples. It includes works from the old and more recent times and, according to its own statements, is a “Collection unique des œuvres les plus remarquables des littératures anciennes et modern traitant des choses de l'amour” (A unique collection of the most outstanding works of ancient and modern literature, which busy with the things of love). It was published in Paris (Rue de Furstemberg 4) since 1909 as a series within the Bibliothèque des Curieux (Library of the Curious). It appeared until the 1930s. The series was initially supervised by the French poet Guillaume Apollinaire (1880-1918). He opened the series with selected texts by Pietro Aretino and the Marquis de Sade, who was still relatively unknown at the time .
