particularities List of mountains or elevations in Senegal

Les Mamelles , Collines des Mamelles or Mamelles are two elevations in Ouakam , a district of Dakar , the capital of Senegal .

description

The mountains were formed in the Quaternary Age and are the remains of two basalt cones of volcanic origin. Despite their only low height of 100 or 105 meters, they stand out clearly in the flat coastal landscape. The Phare des Mamelles , a constantly manned lighthouse, stands on the mountain that borders directly on the Atlantic . The Monument de la Renaissance africaine , inaugurated in 2010, was built on the inland mountain .

Others

The name Mamelles comes from the French term “Mamelle”, in German “Breast”.
