Ouakam (pronunciation of “ou” like English “w”, also “Wakam”) is one of the 19 districts (Communes d'arrondissement du Sénégal) of Dakar , the capital of Senegal . In addition to the original fishing village of the Lébou and newly developed urban residential areas, it also includes the twin hills of Les Mamelles with the Phare des Mamelles lighthouse .

geography

Ouakam is located on the Corniche ouest , the west coast of the Cap-Vert peninsula and, together with the neighboring districts of Ngor and Yoff, is one of the three westernmost districts of Dakar and at the same time one of the westernmost towns on the African continent.

The municipality has an area of ​​4.5 km². The development is framed in the north by the boundary of the Yoff airport area , the former international airport of the metropolis, and in the south-west by the two hills of Les Mamelles . These two hills are right on the coast. Ouakam borders the Mermoz-Sacré Cœur district to the south and Sicap-Liberté to the east .

With the exception of Les Mamelles , the entire district is densely built.

Ouakam recommended itself because of its proximity to the airport for the settlement of trade, commerce and industry. Some military facilities are located here and offer jobs.
