Grand Yoff is one of the 19 districts (Communes d'arrondissement du Sénégal) of Dakar , the capital of Senegal . The name is derived from the neighboring traditional fishing village of Yoff .

geography

Grand Yoff is an approximately rectangular borough in the northern interior of the Cap-Vert Peninsula . The east-west extension is around three and a half kilometers, the south-north extension is around two kilometers.

On all four sides of Grand Yoff is important highways limits of urban transport of Dakar. To the south it borders on the Avenue du Roi Fahd Ben Abdel Aziz , which was also known as the Route du Front de Terre . The latter name relates to the fact that this street should form the northern edge of an extensive urban expansion in urban planning terms. However, it was inevitable that other large districts soon emerged further north, and Grand Yoff was the first of these, which now extend to the north coast of the Cap-Vert Peninsula.

In the west, the four-lane expressway Voie de Dégagement Nord (VDN) forms the border. In the north, Grand Yoff extends to avenue Seydina Limamoulaye , formerly known as route de l'aéroport , as it led to the former Dakar-Léopold Sédar Senghor airport . In the east, the border follows Autoroute 1 .

The municipality has an area of 6.3 km². Neighboring clockwise are the districts of Yoff in the west, Patte d'Oie in the north, Hann-Bel Air in the east and HLM , Dieuppeul-Derklé , Sicap-Liberté and Ouakam in the south .
