Dakar Plateau is one of the 19 districts (Communes d'arrondissement du Sénégal) of Dakar , the capital of Senegal . It includes the historic city center with the government district and the port area.

geography

Dakar Plateau is located at the southern end of the Cap-Vert Peninsula . The district extends from the southern tip of Cap Manuel along the west coast, the Corniche Ouest , to the avenue Malick Sy , and along the east coast to the port area.

The municipality has an area of ​​5.3 km². Neighboring are the districts of Médina in the northwest and Hann-Bel Air in the north.

The city district is almost completely built up. Nevertheless, the average population density is relatively low, as many buildings house state and cultural institutions or are used by administrations as well as service, commercial, commercial and industrial companies.

Infrastructure and culture

Autoroute 1 , which leads from the city center to the new Dakar-Blaise Diagne Airport, begins in the city district . The Dakar – Niger railway also begins here, at the Gare de Dakar , which is directly adjacent to the port of Dakar. On the forecourt in front of the Gare de Dakar is the war memorial Monument Demba et Dupont .
