New district of Yoff at Léopold Sédar Senghor International Airport, with Ouakam in the background
Yoff is one of the 19 districts (Communes d'arrondissement du Sénégal) of Dakar , the capital of Senegal . In addition to the original fishing village of the Lébou and newly created urban residential areas, it also includes an island of the same name, the île de Yoff , and the area of the international airport of Dakar Léopold Sédar Senghor .
Yoff is located near the Pointe des Almadies on the north coast of the Cap-Vert Peninsula and, together with the neighboring districts of Ngor and Ouakam, is one of the three westernmost districts of Dakar and at the same time one of the westernmost towns on the African continent. The municipality has an area of 15.4 km².
With the exception of the airport area in the south and the île de Yoff off the Atlantic coast , almost the entire city district is now built on.
The last censuses showed the following population figures for the city district:
Yoff traditionally lives mainly from fishing and tourism. The traditional pirogues serve as fishing boats for fishing close to the coast . Of course, the function of the city district as an airport neighbor offers an enormous location advantage for the settlement of trade, commerce and industry.
