The Parcelles Assainies ( plural ) are one of the 19 districts (Communes d'arrondissement du Sénégal) of Dakar , the capital of Senegal . The name simply means that it is a part of the city that was planned from the start with sewer systems and well-ordered property and street drainage . Without such precautions, heavy rain events during the rainy season in the flat, undulating urban area, which has hardly any natural runoffs ( receiving waters ), would cause flooding .

The Parcelles Assainies are located in the north of the Cap-Vert peninsula as a lens-shaped urban district and have an approximately 800-meter-long stretch of coast of the Grande-Côte . The east-west extension of the district is around three kilometers, the south-north extension is around 1800 meters. The road network largely shows a chessboard-like pattern and the main traffic axes divide the city district into consecutively numbered districts, each designated as Unité .

To the west, the Parcelles Assainies are bounded by the four-lane expressway Voie de Dégagement Nord (VDN) . The southern border follows the northern feeder road to Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor and the Route des Niayes . In the northeast, the Parcelles Assainies have merged with the urban district of Cambérène and in the east the Parcelles Assainies extend to the road that leads south from Cambérène to the N 1 .

The municipality has an area of ​​3.6 km². Neighboring clockwise are the district of Cambérène in the northeast, the neighboring town of Guédiawaye in the east and the districts of Patte d'Oie in the south and Yoff in the west.

The city district is fully built up and extremely densely populated.

Economy and Infrastructure

All the facilities that are important for life in the Parcelles Assainies are concentrated in the Unité 00 district . There you will find the town hall ( Mairie ), the halls of the central market, the central bus station ( Terminus ), the fire station ( Caserne des Sapeurs Pompiers ), the Catholic Church Marie Immaculée , the post office, a medical center and a cultural center.
