Hann-Bel Air is one of the 19 districts (Communes d'arrondissement du Sénégal) of Dakar , the capital of Senegal .

geography

Hann-Bel Air is located in the east of the Cap-Vert peninsula . The city district extends in a south-north direction about six and a half kilometers with a width of about 1000 to 2000 meters between the east coast, the Baie de Hann , and the A1 as the west and north borders.

The municipality has an area of 11.5 km². Neighboring clockwise are the districts of Dakar Plateau in the south, Gueule Tapée-Fass-Colobane , Médina , HLM and Grand Yoff in the west, Patte d'Oie in the north, and the neighboring metropolis Pikine in the east .

The city district is made up of the smaller district of Bel Air , which includes the area west and south of the Pointe de Bel Air and the districts of Hann that adjoin to the north , such as Hann Marinas, Hann Pecheur, Hann Equip and Hann Maristes .

With the exception of the approximately 50 hectares of the Parc Zoologique de Hann and the Parc Forestier de Hann, the urban district is almost completely built on. Nevertheless, the average population density is relatively low, as the southern part of the urban district south of the Route du Front de Terre consists mainly of industrial and commercial areas.

The Parc Forestier de Hann forms the southern end of the Niayes known wetlands that stretch from here in the hinterland of the coast 150 km far to the north. To the north of Parc Forestier, there are two more depressions in the city district, which have been left out of the development as green spaces because of the groundwater. The Niayes finally take on larger proportions in the northern neighboring district of Patte d'Oie and in the neighboring metropolis of Pikine .

population

The last censuses showed the following population figures for the city district:

year Residents
1988 ...
2002 35 768
2013 67 961

Infrastructure and traffic

The municipality has three junctions with Autoroute 1 : in the south for the west-east main road Rocade Fann-Bel Air , in the middle for the Route du Front de Terre and in the northeast on the road to Cambérène . This provides a fast connection to the new Dakar-Blaise Diagne Airport . The longest street in Hann-Bel Air is the Route de Rufisque , which stretches six kilometers from south to northeast through the city district.

In the industrial zone of Hann-Bel Air, 70% of the industries of Senegal are located. The port autonome de Dakar (pier 4 to pier 10, including the fishing port) and the power station Bel Air of Senelec are worthy of mention . To develop the industrial area, industrial tracks branch off from the Dakar – Niger railway line .

Until 2011, the entire peninsula of Bel Air was the Camp de Bel Air base of the French 23 ° Bataillon d'Infanterie de Marine (23 ° BIMa) and a restricted military area. After the dissolution of this unit, the site was returned to the Senegalese state.
