The Senelec or Société Nationale d'Electricité du Sénégal (German: National Electricity Company of Senegal) operates as a public company majority stake in publicly owned power plants and power grid in the West African state of Senegal and is the main electricity supplier in the country.

history

The Senelec in 1983 by a merger created the two companies EDS (Électricité du Sénégal) and êëóá (Compagnie des Eaux et Electricité Ouest Africain) by law after the state had acquired a majority stake in both companies. Senelec has a share capital of 175 billion CFA francs.

Infrastructure and production

Senelec's headquarters are at 28 Rue Vincens, Dakar , Dakar Plateau district . There are six main branches across the country.

Senelec's network has an installed capacity of 1046 MW , almost 75 percent of which is generated from fossil fuels . The share of solar energy has now risen to just under 10 percent. In 2016, the company had sales of 2.875 billion kilowatt hours of electrical energy (2875 GWh).

Senelec can generate 554 MW in its own power plants. Senelec's largest power plant park is Cap des Biches in Rufisque Ouest , where a capacity of more than 340 MW is installed in several power plant blocks . In second place is Bel Air in the Hann-Bel Air district of the Dakar metropolis with 134 MW.
