Course of the road

The car Route 1 is one of the highways in Senegal . It is subject to tolls outside the urban area of Dakar and is operated by SENAC SA (Société Eiffage de la Nouvelle Autoroute Concédée) , an Eiffage Sénégal company .
The construction of the motorway was supposed to relieve the chronic traffic jam in the west-east traffic between Dakar and the rest of the country, which was caused by the geographic location of the metropolis at the end of the bottleneck of the Cap-Vert peninsula and which so far was only on the national road N 1 as Eye of the needle was instructed.
During the planning and construction phase, it was referred to as the Autoroute de l'Avenir (Motorway of the Future) or, with regard to its first construction phase and the toll, as the Autoroute à péage Dakar - Diamniadio . Most of the funding came from a public-private partnership (PPP) . The construction project began in 2009 and led to the completion of the construction section to Diamniadio on August 1, 2013. This construction phase comprised eight junction points (exchangeurs) , 27 overpasses and underpasses or viaducts, ten pedestrian overpasses and 14 toll stations.
The next important goal was the connection to the new Dakar-Blaise Diagne Airport , which was opened to traffic on October 25, 2016. The third construction phase from Thiès to Touba was opened on December 20, 2018.
Starting in 2013, the route through the metropolis of Pikine required extensive renovation and renovation work in the southern districts with their unregulated development, known as Restructuration de Pikine Irrégulier Sud (PIS) , a 700-hectare district redevelopment affecting 220,000 inhabitants. A total of 5000 apartments had to give way to road construction. As a replacement, the APIX (Agence nationale chargée de la Promotion de l'Investissement et des Grands Travaux) planned a retort settlement between Keur Massar and Tivaouane Peulh under the project name Recasement de Keur Massar and inaugurated it on July 23, 2016 by President Macky Sall .
The intersection-free street course begins as an urban motorway in the center of Dakar at the north end of the Avenue du Président Lamine Guèye , near the Dakar train station with the flyover and connection to the Avenue Malick Sy . The end of the A1 is on a bypass road on the outskirts of Mbacké and Touba .
