Fann-Point E-Amitié is one of the 19 municipalities (Communes d'arrondissement du Sénégal) of Dakar , the capital of Senegal . The city district includes the university quarter and forms the focus of the diplomatic quarter.

The west and south of Fann-Point E-Amitié is by the sea with the Corniche ouest and the Pointe de Fann , the southwestern tip of the Cap-Vert peninsula . Fann shares the bay of Soumbedioune in the south with the neighboring district of Gueule Tapée , which also includes the beach as a base for coastal fishing, which is still traditionally carried out with pirogues . Canal 4 leads from the city center into the sea between the two parts of the city. It is an open drainage channel about eleven meters wide and several meters deep with steep walls, which is particularly suitable for using other similar channels to channel the surface water that occurs during heavy rainfall out of the city without damage.

The municipality has an area of ​​4.8 km². Neighboring the districts of Mermoz-Sacré Cœur in the northwest, Grand Dakar in the northeast and Gueule Tapée-Fass-Colobane in the east .

The district of Fann is located in the southwest on the coast. To the northeast, the district of Point E joins, followed by Amitié (in German: friendship ).

The city district is almost completely built up, but it also has a number of educational, health and leisure facilities, hotels, embassies and residential areas, so that the average population density is kept within limits.

Infrastructure and culture

The newly built Cité universitaire in Fann is home to the Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar with its faculties , the University Clinic Center hospitalier national universitaire de Fann and a botanical garden. The private Université Amadou Hampaté Bâ is located in the Amitié district. The Supreme Court of Justice, Cour suprême du Sénégal , is located in a new building on Soumbedioune beach.

In Point E there is the Piscine olympique , an outdoor swimming pool with an Olympic swimming pool (50 m long, 25 m wide). In 2009, the Place du Souvenir Africain (Dakar) was inaugurated on the beach in Fann , a pantheon for protagonists of African history and culture, one of the prestige projects of President Abdoulaye Wade .
