Lesley Nneka Arimah (born October 13, 1983 in London ) is a Nigerian author and winner of the 2015 Commonwealth Short Story Prize for Africa, the 2017 O. Henry Prize and the 2019 Caine Prize for African Writing.

biography

Arimah grew up in Nigeria and the United Kingdom and moved to the United States in her youth. She is currently working on a novel. In 2015 her story "Light" won the Commonwealth Short Story Prize for Africa. In 2016, 2017 and 2019 she was shortlisted for the Caine Prize and won it in 2019 with her story "Skinned". and the 2019 Caine Prize for African Writing .

Her stories have appeared in The New Yorker, Granta, Per Contra, and other publications.

In September 2017 she was named one of the "Five Under 35" by the National Book Foundation.

In 2019, the German translation of her short story volume "What it means when a man falls out of heaven" was published by Culturbooks Verlag.
