The G.-E.-Lessing-Gymnasium Hohenstein-Ernstthal (short: LGHE ) is the only gymnasium in Hohenstein-Ernstthal . It has an artistic, scientific and linguistic profile . Of the approximately 800 students, around 51 percent are female. The school is named after the poet Gotthold Ephraim Lessing .

school-building

The school currently consists of three buildings with a total of 53 subject rooms, four of which are computer rooms. In addition, since the school year 2012/13, the building of the former Pestalozzi primary school, approx. 0.3 km from the main building, has been used as a branch. The fifth grade is currently accommodated there in five additional classrooms. In 2004, funds totaling 4.84 million euros were spent on renovating the entire school. The renovation of the three buildings was completed in October 2007. In the course of the renovation work, the Lessing-Gymnasium was expanded into a barrier-free (handicapped accessible) all-day school. All three buildings are therefore equipped with elevators .

The new three-field sports hall, built in 2003, is around one kilometer away. Since 2005 the school has had a cafeteria called Chillout , which is run exclusively by students, but has been in its own operation again since 2018. In addition to chill-out, a new observatory was built on the roof of the main building, which is used (for the scientific profile and astronomy).

Professional equipment

Since summer 2007 there are four computer rooms, two of which are equipped with modern computers and several media rooms that the students can use independently. There has also been a language laboratory since 2005 where foreign languages can be taught interactively. Since the reconstruction there has been a house for natural sciences in which there are three or two specialist rooms for physics, biology and chemistry. Three rooms with pianos and hi-fi systems are available for music. Art, history, social studies , ethics and religion are housed in a special building. Since the summer vacation 2017 there are modern, interactive boards with touch in the science building.

pedagogy

Four foreign languages are taught at the Lessing Gymnasium. English is taught from the 5th grade. The Cambridge First Certificate of English can also be taken in the upper level . In the 6th grade, students can choose between French and Russian. From the 8th to the 10th grade there are profile lessons, with the choice between a natural science profile with a focus on physics, chemistry and biology, a linguistic profile with Spanish as a third foreign language and an artistic profile specializing in art, music and performing games . In the scientific and artistic profile, IT knowledge is also imparted.

The grammar school is a test school of the new curricula in Saxony from 2004. They were applied here a year earlier than in the other schools, so in the school year 2007/08 the eleventh grade was taught according to the new curriculum.

public relation

A partnership with the school in Bourganeuf in France has existed since 2005 . In the eighth and ninth grades, there is a regular language trip to Swansea in Wales, where the students are housed with host families. The Lessing-Gymnasium also hosts a talent meeting, which usually takes place in March in the auditorium. The school choirs, which have been in existence since 1992 (junior choir, mixed choir, chamber choir and, since 2001, alumni choir) organize two Christmas concerts and one annual concert every year. Since 2005, the fundraising event has been held annually as part of Red Nose Day . The Lessing-Gymnasium has had its own sponsorship association since 1998 and aims to actively support the development and promotion of the school.
