Leszek came from the Piast dynasty .

Life

He was a son of Casimir the Righteous and aspired to succeed his father in the office of Senior Duke (Princeps) of Poland in Krakow. He had his uncle Mieszko the old man , his father's older brother, as an enemy. He finally asserted himself on the Krakow throne in 1211. Leszek sought to take over parts of the Kievan Rus , to which the Kingdom of Hungary also claimed - but was unsuccessful.

Leszek died tragically near Gąsawa, where he met for a conference with Władysław the Thin Leg and Heinrich the Bearded . During his flight after the attack of the Duke of Pomerania , Swantopolk II , he died.
